Guardian Rumour Mill

Barry Glendenning

Like news of illegal Downing Street “work events” held during lockdown, the transfer rumours keep coming thick and fast and much like yesterday, Manchester United figure prominently in today’s tell-all and are being linked with all manner of comings and goings.

Disaffected midfielder Donny van de Beek is waiting impatiently in the departures lounge, having been offered to Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund, while Paul Pogba continues to be linked with Paris Saint-Germain, whose manager Mauricio Pochettino could still go the other way. United have identified Napoli’s Spanish midfielder Fabián Ruiz as a potential replacement for Pogba, whose contract expires in June and future remains very much up in the air.

With their star turn Federico Chiesa out for the season after suffering an ACL injury in his side’s win over Roma last weekend, Juventus are eyeing up replacements in the form of United’s Anthony Martial or Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Already in the market for a new striker before Chiesa’s unfortunate collision with Chris Smalling, Juve have been forced to into an urgent rethink as far as their January transfer plans are concerned.

Having successfully signed Chris Wood from Burnley, Newcastle remain interested in bringing Todd Cantwell to St James’ Park from Norwich City in a move that probably wouldn’t be viewed as weakening another relegation rival considering how little time the playmaker has spent on the pitch this season. Cantwell, who has also been linked with Leeds United, is expected to be in Norwich’s squad for Saturday’s game against Everton after recovering from illness.

With their January trolley-dash ongoing, Newcastle have also bid for Sevilla central defender Diego Carlos and have been warned they will have to pay the thick end of £40m to prise Serbian defender Nikola Milenković away from Fiorentina.

Currently “winning” the January window after signing Philippe Coutinho and Lucas Digne, Aston Villa hope to consolidate by luring Yves Bissouma away from Brighton. Valued at £50m and also on the radar of Manchester United and Liverpool, the Mali midfielder is currently away in Cameroon and has 18 months left on his contract with Brighton. However, his employers have hinted they might be tempted to cash in if they get a decent offer. “There are lots of ifs and buts,” said Graham Potter upon being asked about Bissouma’s future. “I’m confident. Yves is enjoying his football here but as I have said with the transfer window you never know.”

Following their impressive performance against Liverpool, Arsenal are giving the glad eye to Youri Tielemans and Gini Wijnaldum. In the final 18 months of his contract, Tielemans is unlikely to leave Leicester this month but Brendan Rodgers has revealed a summer exit could be on the cards.

“For players it’s about ambition, the challenge and sometimes it’s about a different environment,” he said. “We have seen it before many times.” In more heartwarming news for Leicester fans, their club is hell bent on making Ademola Lookman’s loan move from Leipzig permanent.

Fabio Carvalho situation at Fulham appears uncertain as Liverpool, Spurs, West Ham and Southampton circle

By Declan Harte

Fulham are increasingly fearing that Fabio Carvalho has already agreed a move away from the club.

A report from Teamtalk suggests that the 19-year old has received interest from multiple Premier League clubs such as Tottenham and Liverpool.

Talks over a new contract with Carvalho have stalled in recent months, with his existing deal set to expire at the end of next season.

The attacking midfielder has turned down multiple offers from the club to keep him at the club over a longer period.

Southampton, West Ham, Spurs and Liverpool are all said to be interested in the player.

Carvalho broke through the Fulham side during their Premier League stint last season, appearing in four games.

This season he has continued to impress as Fulham attempt to go straight back up to the top flight. He has made 14 Championship appearances, scoring four times and earning one assist.

Marco Silva’s side are second in the division, only one away from league leaders Bournemouth. Fulham also have a game in hand on their automatic promotion rivals.

Blackburn Rovers are two points behind while also having played a game more.

Fulham won their most recent league game with the hammering of Reading, it finished a comfortable 7-0.

Their next fixture comes at Craven Cottage against Bristol City on January 15.

The Verdict

Fulham will be hoping their league position will help in their negotiations over a new contract. With 18-months still left on his current deal, there is still time for an agreement to be made.

However, Carvalho ultimately has the greatest bargaining position. Fulham will be left with very little choice but to cash-in on the player in the Summer if he continues to turn down a new contract.

Even if Fulham can secure Premier League football for next season, it will still be hard for Carvalho to turn down the chance to play for the likes of Liverpool or Tottenham if one of those clubs comes calling.

Sad player being urged to leave amid Newcastle and West Ham interest

Subhankar Mondal

Reported Newcastle United and West Ham United transfer target Eden Hazard is being urged to leave Real Madrid, according to Defensa Central.

Both Newcastle and West Ham have been linked with former Chelsea attacking midfielder Hazard.

According to The Sunday Mirror (05/12, p70), Hazard fancies a return to the Premier League, and both West Ham and Everton want to sign the Belgium international.

Sport reported in November interest from Newcastle in securing the services of the 31-year-old, who can operate as a winger or an attacking midfielder.

And now Defensa Central are reporting that Hazard is being urged to leave Madrid at the end of the season.

The former Chelsea star is reportedly ‘sad’ at his situation at Madrid.

Hazard cannot understand why he is not getting playing time under manager Carlo Ancelotti despite being fit and doing the right things.

In our view, Newcastle and West Ham should make a loan bid for Madrid’s hazard in the January transfer window.

Now, of course, Newcastle are in the Premier League bottom three, and the Belgian is unlikely to entertain a permanent move to St. James’ Park.

However, the chance to help an historic club escape the dreaded drop to the Championship could be a challenge that Hazard could relish.

And he would walk straight into the team.

West Ham are not an ‘elite’ club in European terms, but they could finish in the Premier League top four.

That could be appealing to Hazard, under contract at Madrid until the summer of 2024, for the short term.

English probe Danilo and prepare millionaire proposal for Palmeiras

The steering wheel has aroused the interest of two clubs and should receive proposals after the World Cup

Amid the speeches of president Leila Pereira about keeping Palmeiras' cashier healthy and therefore not doing crazy things to strengthen the team, Verdão is already preparing to sell one of its main revelations: midfielder Danilo.

According to what LANCE! found out, Arsenal and West Ham have looked for the player's staff and are prepared to make an offer that could reach up to 25 million euros (about R$ 158.29 million) when Verdão is ready to start negotiations.

Arsenal's offer would even include a target plan that could raise the value by another 5 million euros (approximately R$31.66 million).

To L!, people from the Palmeirense board reiterated that the club will not sell anyone from the squad until the Club World Cup, in February, in the United Arab Emirates.

Afterwards, however, pieces that come to be harassed by the European market in exchange for good financial compensation to the club will not be ignored. Even more revelations from the base. Since the first winning generation moved up to professional and did well in 2019, no player has had a major transfer.

Danilo, in particular, became professional in 2020. The midfielder has a contract until 2025 and a release penalty of 100 million euros (approximately R$ 633.18 million).

The Palmeiras shirt 28 is valued by the Transfermarkt website, which specializes in the football market, at 18 million euros (about R$ 113.97 million) – the midfielder is the most valuable athlete in the current Palmeiras squad and the second most expensive in the Series. Brazilian football.

Since making his professional debut, in the second half of 2020, Danilo has added 83 games, five goals and two Libertadores – starting in both decisions -, a Copa do Brasil and a Paulistão on his resume.
